I'm sure this has been asked before in dead forums and blogs, etc.

you have to ditch your entire collection, but you can keep one show...better yet, if it's a show you don't have, an effort would be made to get you the show at the highest quality possible...

this will be the only Grateful Dead music you will get to hear for the rest of your natural born life...

one show...

which one would it be?

I'm leaning towards 12-31-1978 myself...scarlet fire, terrapin, playin, NFA, St Stephen, dark star, and we bid you goodnight...

Strat-

Can we pick one song or one song combo from a show to take with our one show we pick?

12/31/78 would be it- but no Morning Dew- Show must have morning Dew and scarlet fire and Dark Star

12/31/81 has all the tunes- but no scarlet fire

without this additional caveat hand me the anvil.....

How about we can pick one show- but it is a compilation- you strat set the time limits and number of sets- and we can fill in the songs in the typical sequence alternating Bob and Jerry

i have to agree w/ 12/31/78, even though it is not necessarily my favorite show. however, it is still a smoker and it just has so many of the key tunes (scarfire, terrapin, playin, dark star, o1, stephen, and a split sugar mags/sunshine for 5hits and giggles).

and its a 3 set jobbie, so it's almost like you get 1 and 1/2 shows for the price of 1.

so i think 12/31/78 is the choice.

and this may seem like the poseur pick, but good ol 5/8/77 has scarfire, estimated, stephen and dew. worth mentioning.

if we change it what dead CD, DP 10 would be my call. you get all of 12/29/77 (sugaree, monster playin, china>rider, terrapin) and estimated, eyes, stephen from 12/20.

The Closing of Winterland would have to be it for me, not the best versions of all their songs, but they play all my favorites on this one.

Been meaning to mention it for a while, but you & I lost our Dead show virginity the same day (9/6/80...my parents still think I was camping that weekend...)
Great Sugaree & China>Rider too...

I was thinking that last night (Groking 2/26/77)...it's coming right up too. I missed the inaugural Grok owing to excrutiating in-law obligations. Like I said, the date's comin right up...but so far away. We should get it on with another date in the interim.
Any nominations?

I think I'd rather answer the question "Which would you rather have, a hot poker in the eye, or your toes crushed by a anvil?", it would be much easier.

So why don't we tweak the question just a tad, as similar situations have happened to both BryanE & myself: suppose you lost your entire music collection in a pass, be it to house fire or thieving cockroaches. If only one show survived, which would you want it to be?

I dig what you're saying about it taking 40 years to build your current collection. I lost everything in '87 and that don't do nothing but suck. I'm proud of the collection I've built through more recent years--and in the time, homework, effort & expense I've invested in building a lifetime's worth of music. I could live without music if I had to--and have--but what would be the fucking point?

Honestly, I don't think I can do it.

Can't fathom it.

Don't want to, too painful.

I might have to go cold turkey and replay them all in my head...

Could me swap the show every week, month, year even? Please!

9/17/82...for sentimental reasons...

But how can I possibly go on without 1968, '72 OR '77!?! Screw this--lemme take the anvil to the toes.
